Here is our Mock Letter to the government:
Dear Government Official,
I am writing to you on behalf of The Clean Ocean, a public awareness campaign for ocean pollution. Our campaign focuses on bringing awareness to the issue of marine pollution that plagues our earth and advocating for marine life and health. We are writing to you to request your support for this cause.
Marine pollution is one of the world’s worst pollution problems, and it is all due to improper disposal of trash and other wastes. Chemical contamination is one type of marine pollution that occurs when human activities lead to the runoff of chemicals into waterways that lead into the ocean flow. This makes the water toxic to wildlife and even to humans. Trash contamination consists of manufactured products, mostly plastic, that ends up in the ocean. Littering, poor waste management and storm winds all contribute to the accumulation of this debris. Plastic waste is especially problematic as a pollutant because it is long-lasting, as it can take hundreds of years to decompose.
Dumping oils, waste, plastic, and other toxic objects harm the quality of the oceans water and the health of the species living in it. It raises acidification of the ocean, erodes the land quicker, destroyed coral reefs, and kills thousands of species, many of which already face endangerment. That is why it is imperative that we find more conservative and healthy ways to dispose waste without effecting the ocean, and why we are requesting your support for this cause. With your financial support, we can bring awareness to the issue of marine pollution by organizing events, fundraisers, and community clean-ups. The funds will also go towards equipment necessary to help reduce ocean trash pollution.
Thank you for your support and consideration.
Sincerely,
